CENTER OF PRIESTLY AND RELIGIOUS VOCATIONS

Declared as the national shrine on October 29, 1991, the parish of St. Anne; founded by the Augustinians in 1581,  is the second established local community in honor of St. Anne. At first the Parish of Sta. Ana, Manila was dedicated to the saint since 1578 until the parish changed its titular patroness to Virgen delos Desamparados between 1720 to 1725 when her image arrived from Valencia, Spain. Hagonoy’s devotion to St. Anne was recognized brought by the significant number of vocations that came from the town. Its priests’ association, Kapatiran ng Kapariang Taga-Hagonoy, Inc. counts up to more than 100 priests since the Spanish era.

CENTER FOR VOCATIONS

The Parish of St. Anne, founded in 1581 by the Augustinians, is the second Annesian parish in the Philippines before the first community in Santa Ana, Manila built by the Franciscans changed its patroness to Our Lady of the Abandoned between 1720 to 1725. The parish became a center for both priestly and religious vocations. It was declared a Diocesan Shrine by Malolos Bishop Cirilo R. Almario, Jr. in 1989 and in 1991 it was officially declared by the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines as a National Shrine.

THE “TATLONG PATRON” OF OBANDO

The parish of Obando was dedicated to San Pascual Baylon in 1754 though the first patroness of the area was St. Claire of Assisi. The image of Our Lady of Salambao, recorded by the Spanish friars as an image of the Immaculate Conception, was discovered by three fishermen in 1763. Since then, Obando has three patrons, which are celebrated through a dance every May 17, 18 and 19 of every year. The fertility dance is celebrated by childless couples who pray to the patrons for the grace of children.

BOCAUE’S PATRONS

The parish of Bocaue also has its set of patrons since its foundation in 1606. The parish patron is St. Martin of Tours as decided upon by the Franciscan missionaries. The devotion to the Holy Cross under the title Mahal na Poong Krus sa Wawa was promoted in the parish since the cross was found by the river. Since then, the fluvial procession or “pagoda” was introduced. Though it was discontinued after the 1993 pagoda tragedy, it has been revived under Msgr. Alberto Suatengco’s tenure. The parish’s image of Nuestra Señora de las Flores will be episcopally crowned on May 2, 2020.

LIBAD KAY SAN JUAN BAUTISTA

The first parish of the province of Bulacan, Calumpit was first dedicated to San Nicolas de Tolentino, an Augustinian saint. Later on, in honor of the primacy of Calumpit among the Augustinian convents, it was dedicated to St. John the Baptist. The “Libad”, a fluvial procession similar to the traditions of nearby Apalit, Pampanga in honor of St. Peter or “Apung Iru”, is the main festival in honor of the patron saint. It was dedicated as a diocesan shrine in 2013 at the closing of the diocese’s golden jubilee.

MOTHER OF THE EUCHARIST AND GRACE

Celebrated every 12th of June, the commemoration to Mary, Mother of the Eucharist and Grace was brought through the personal revelation of the Virgin Mary to Bro. Carmelo V. Cortez in 1991. The depiction of the Virgin Mary was that of a Lady in white with a scapular on one hand and a rosary on the other, crowned with roses and with the heart of Mary which has the Eucharist at the center. The oratory began as a small chapel in 1994 and was expanded in many years. It was elevated into a shrine in 2006. The shrine in currently under the care of the Immaculate Conception Major Seminary Fathers.
