MISSION ACCOMPLISHED: A Tribute to Rev. Msgr. Sabino A. Vengco, Jr., H.P. (1942-2021)

REV. MSGR. SABINO AZURIN VENGCO, JR. (9 March, 1942 – 17 May, 2021)

*was of the Diocese of Malolos, hailing from Hagonoy, Bulacan.

 *He studied for the priesthood in San Jose Seminary and was ordained to the priesthood in 1965.

 *He had an M.A. Philosophy, a doctorate in Sacred Theology (Magna Cum Laude), and a diplomate in Liturgy (Summa Cum Laude) from Trier, Germany.

 *He was formerly the dean of theology in San Carlos Seminary Graduate School of Theology, Makati; and in Immaculate Conception Major Seminary Graduate School of Theology, Guiguinto, Bulacan.

 *He was the 2010 “Dangal ng Lipi (Paglilingkod Pampamayanan)” awardee by the Bulacan provincial government.

 *The recipient of the “San Jose Award” 2009 as an Outstanding Alumnus of San Jose Seminary, in recognition of his fraternal care for the elderly priests and of his commitment to the teaching ministry. 

 *The 2009 “Gawad Sagisag Quezon” awardee by the Komisyon sa Wikang Pilipino, for exemplary use of the Filipino language in Mass Media (“Ecclesia in Asia: Ang Misa” on GMA 7 and on DWIZ 882. 

 *The 2007 Catholic Mass Media Awards Serviam awardee, the 2003 “Bukas Palad” awardee of Ateneo de Manila University, the 1989 “Outstanding Catholic Author” awardee for his writings, and in 1984 an “Outstanding Son of Hagonoy” awardee.

 *He was a professor of theology at the Loyola School of Theology, Ateneo de Manila University, Quezon City; at the San Carlos Seminary Graduate School of Theology in Makati; at the Immaculate Conception Major Seminary Graduate School of Theology in Guiguinto, Bulacan; at the Ecclesiastical Faculties of the University of Sto. Tomas, Manila, and at the Recoletos School of Theology, Tandang Sora, Quezon City.

 *Founding president of Kadiwa sa Pagkapari Foundation, Inc., a ministry of caring for the elderly and sick Filipino diocesan priests

 *Host of the Catholic Sunday broadcast: “Ecclesia in Asia – Ang Salita ng Diyos” aired in DWIZ AM Radio 882 at 5-6 am.

 *And was a columnist of “Business Mirror” every Thursday with his column entitled “Alalaong Baga”

*died on May 17, 2021 at the age of 79.
